Born in Ireland in the beautiful Mountains of Mourne, I’ve been an artist since the age of two when I was first discovered scribbling in my grandfather’s books. Years of travel around the globe exposed me to the art and beauty of many cultures before settling in the US and making North Carolina my home.
After many years as a studio artist, plein air painting and urban sketching have become my passion. I marvel in the beautiful world around me, and portray it in vibrant, transparent watercolors. There’s a painting in every scene, every tin roof, every Southern porch, every majestic column, every historic building, every Craftsman’s cottage, every hanging basket and every fragrant flower.
I often go to a location with a vision of one painting, only to find inspiration in something completely different. The patterns of light, and shade, and intensity of color on historic homes, flowers and landscapes vary constantly and provide infinite inspiration.
Most days I can be found painting in my garden, at the local arboretum, or around the beautiful historic homes or buildings of the Carolina’s.
When I put my paintbrush down, you will often find me working in my garden, hiking, or sharing my love of art and painting with one of my grandchildren.
